Construction Worker Fatally Struck On SR-94 In Spring Valley

A construction worker was fatally struck when a driver veered into a construction zone on state Route 94 in Spring Valley, authorities said.

SPRING VALLEY, CA — A 41-year-old construction worker was fatally struck Wednesday when a driver veered into an active construction zone on state Route 94 in Spring Valley, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 12:10 a.m. on eastbound SR-94 east of Avocado Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.

A 24-year-old El Cajon woman was driving a 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage in the left lane of the two-lane eastbound highway when, for unknown reasons, she allowed the car to veer into the right lane, which was shut down to allow construction workers to perform roadway maintenance, Garrow said.

The Mitsubishi struck a Granite Construction worker who was on foot in the construction zone, the officer said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and alcohol was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, Garrow said.
