Fatal Crash on I-8 Backs Up Morning Traffic

A person was fatally injured in a single-vehicle crash today on Interstate 8 in El Cajon.

Callers told the California Highway Patrol shortly before 7:30 a.m. that a small blue station wagon had crashed into the center divider in the eastbound lanes near West Main Street, authorities said.

The wrecked car came to a rest blocking two lanes, which left traffic backed up to Grossmont Boulevard, according to Caltrans. A SigAlert was issued, but all lanes were reported as clear shortly before 9 a.m.
