Heartland Fire Academy Introduces New Graduates
Graduates consist of paid firefighters, reserve firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and Miramar college students.
The City of El Cajon recently made the following announcement:
The 23rd Heartland Fire Academy Graduation was held Saturday, April 27, at Sonrise Church in Santee. A total of 22 graduates successfully completed 16 weeks (486 hours) of intense firefighter training at the Heartland Training Facility in El Cajon in conjunction with San Diego Miramar College. The San Diego County Firefighters Pipes & Drums Band lead graduates in as the ceremony began.
Graduates consist of paid firefighters, reserve firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and Miramar college students. Several of the area Fire Chiefs were at the ceremony to officially welcome their new hires to the ranks.Â

This State Accredited Firefighter 1 Academy consists of classroom instruction and manipulative training. Â

The Heartland Fire Training Authority was founded in 1974 and is a working cooperative that consists of 11 agencies that include: The Cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove and Santee; the Fire Protection Districts of Alpine, Bonita, Lakeside, and San Miguel, the San Diego County Fire Authority, Barona and Viejas reservation Fire Departments.
Together, these agencies have approximately 508 Firefighters that staff 44 stations to protect 542,000 citizens.
