Helix sharpshooter Kaelen Mitchell leads all scorers with 21 points, including four 3-pointers.

Senior forward Kaelen Mitchell scored 21 points—including four three-pointers—to lead Helix Charter High School past visiting Grossmont High in the first of two basketball showdowns between the crosstown rivals. Coach John Singer’s Scotties jumped to a 17-10 lead after one period and a 34-21 advantage at halftime before cruising to a 65-46 victory Tuesday with players coming off the bench.

Romario Wilson (16 points) and Titus Young (11) were other Highlanders in double figures as Helix improved its season record to 11-5.  Freshman forward Tommy Rutherford led Grossmont scorers with 18 points, and Austin Swisher contributed 10 as coach Frank Foggiano’s Hillers fell to 8-8 on the year.  Grossmont travels to West Hills on Friday night, while Helix hosts Granite Hills High School.
