Join the Barona Cultural Center & Museum for a Hands-On Atlatl and Spear Making Class on February 6

This first-time instructional workshop is open to the public and free for all Barona Tribal Members.

The Barona Cultural Center & Museum invites San Diegans to attend its first ever Atlatl and Spear Making class instructed by cultural arts enthusiast Willie Pink of the Pala Band of Mission Indians on Saturday, February 6. This new hands-on class will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as part of the museum’s Ancient Spirits Speak workshop series.

Atlatls, or spear-throwers, were used for thousands of years by indigenous peoples around the world. Relying on the principle of leverage, the atlatl allowed the hunter to extend the reach of his arm and increase the force with which he threw. Willie Pink will teach participants how to shape and use the atlatl and spear.

The workshop is open to the public for ages 18 and up and will take place at the Barona Cultural Center & Museum. The class is $25 for the public and is free to all Barona Tribal Members (price includes lunch). Please RSVP by Friday, January 29 by calling 619-443-7003, ext. 219 to pre-pay and guarantee your spot. For more information, visit www.baronamuseum.org.
