La Mesa Artist's Lifetime Work on Display at San Diego Watercolor Society

The special show runs through Dec. 30 at the San Diego Watercolor Society Art Gallery in Arts District Liberty Station.

LA MESA, CA – Longtime La Mesa artist Jay Andrews’ lifetime work is currently on display at the San Diego Watercolor Society Art Gallery in Arts District Liberty Station.

“Jay Andrews – Plein Air Painter Extrordinaire, a Collection of His Work Through the Decades” runs through Dec. 30 at the art gallery, located at 2825 Dewey Road, Building 202, in San Diego.

Born in California but raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Andrews loved to draw and paint as a child. As an adult, he went on to serve as a pilot in the United States Air Force.

After retiring from the Air Force, Andrews earned his architect license at the University of California and practiced in La Mesa for 50 years. He still designs and remodels houses today.

Now in his 90s, Andrews can often be found painting in remote places. Two of his favorite places to paint are El Capitan and Lake Murray.

An opening reception for the special show featuring Andrews’ work was held Dec. 11 at the San Diego Watercolor Society Art Gallery. The exhibit is open through Dec. 30.

The San Diego Watercolor Society Art Galley is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. However, the gallery is closed Dec. 24-25 for the holidays. It is open Dec. 31. Admission is free.
