Two incumbents, Kristine Alessio and Colin Parent, were challenged by candidates Allan Durden, Laura Lothian, Mark Papenfuss and Jack Shu.
As of Wednesday, Parent and Shu held narrow leads over Alessio, followed by Lothian, Durden and Papenfuss, according to unofficial vote totals from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

It was unclear how many votes remained to be tallied, and with the prevalence of mail ballots in Tuesday's election, it could be days or weeks before final numbers are determined.
There are still 370,000 ballots left to be counted, County Registrar of Voters Michael Vu announced Wednesday, but the county will not release additional results until 5 p.m. Thursday.
