The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR), a 3,100-member real state trade association for San Diego-area realtors, has one of its realtor members now serving on a newly created housing committee for the City of National City. Denisse Roldan Newell was recently selected on the Housing Advisory Committee. The committee works in conjunction with the National City Planning Commission to make recommendations to City Council on policies and ideas related to local housing issues.

City officials said Newell was selected because of her practical experience in real estate sales and her passion to increase homeownership and affordability for National City residents. Newell also served as the 2019 president of the local San Diego chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP).

“We’re very proud of Denisse and of her civic involvement and participation in National City,” said Rich D’Ascoli, CEO, PSAR. “We encourage all of our members to be involved in their local communities and Denisse is leading with her example.”

“I consider it a tremendous honor to be involved in the National City Housing Advisory Committee,” said Newell. “I am passionate about working together to develop solutions for underrepresented populations who need affordable housing solutions and to make the dream of homeownership a reality for everyone.”

National City Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis has made housing a priority since her election as mayor in 2018, after serving on the City Council since 2008. Housing issues under discussion by National City officials have included granny flats, rent control and city regulations that would incentivize developers to build new housing projects.
