Update: Deaf, Blind 15-Year-Old German Shepherd Found Under Deck
Owner posted Lost Dog notice at U.S. postal annex on Lake Murray Boulevard, near El Paso Street.
Roxie the 15-year-old German shepherd went missing Sunday, but was found Monday—having led her La Mesa owner to search the area until 2 a.m.
Carolinn Torwick, a veterinary technician, says she posted dozens of Lost Dog posters, including one seen on the door of the U.S. postal carrier annex on Lake Murray Boulevard near El Paso Street on Wednesday.
Where was Roxie?

The deaf and blind canine had fallen through a backyard deck at Torwick’s home.
“Thank God we found her,” Torwick said Wednesday night. “She’s eating, walking around, pretty happy.”

Roxie had gotten entwined in Philodendron vines, however, and was unable to move when discovered Monday, said her owner, a 22-year La Mesa resident.
“She was scared” when discovered about 1 p.m. Monday, Torwick said. “I [had] walked all over La Mesa till 2 a.m.”
Via email, Torwick added:
We are very thankful to all who offered their assistance in locating her. After 18 hours of searching, we found her right in our own backyard. She had snuck out of an open door and was found under our deck, trapped by vines wrapped around her back legs. (you couldn't see her unless you crawled under the deck, and she never barked or cried). We are very thankful to have our "Mrs. Magoo" back inside, safe and sound.
Torwick thought she had taken down all the Lost Dog signs, but had missed the one at the post office.
She promised to fetch that one as well soon.
“I don’t want to litter,” she said.
