CineArts 'Dome' Demolition Halted

The 'Dome' is safe — at least for now.

Demolition has been put on hold pending the outcome of a May 6 public hearing when the city council will make a final decision as to the theater's fate. 

The "Save the Pleasant Hill Dome" group sought legal help to halt the demolition. Pleasant Hill City Attorney Janet Coleson responded to the group's lawyer, stating that an appeal hearing for the demolition permit is being scheduled. Meanwhile, "the Chief Building Official has notified the property owner and contractor that during the pendency of the appeal, there may be no work performed under the permit."

A demolition permit was issued after the SyWest Development project was approved by the Planning Commission and Architectural Review Commission. The active permit could have been executed at any time, regardless of the pending appeal to "Save the Pleasant Hill Dome," according to City of Pleasant Hill Public Information Officer Martin Nelis.

The CinéArts 'dome' and Cinemark has already begun removing its property from the theater, including the seats.
