Con Fire Goes Forward With Shared Station on Lorinda Lane

Fire Chief says 'Station 46' would pay for itself in three years.

The Contra Costa fire chief wants to go forward with plans to build and operate a fire station with the Moraga-Orinda Fire District in Lafayette.

The proposal calls for the two agencies to erect a new fire station on 2.3 acres of property on Lorinda Lane after closing both Con Fire’s Station 16 on Los Arabis Avenue in Lafayette and MOFD’s Station 43 on Via Las Cruces in Orinda.

According to Con Fire Chief Daryl Louder, the new Station 46 would save the department $1 million a year, not including the revenue from selling the property on Los Arabis Avenue. According to the proposed agreement, Station 46 will be a three-person paramedic engine company from MOFD. Con Fire will pay half the cost of staffing the station.

The property at 1035 Lorinda Lane is $1.2 million. Both agencies will split the cost of acquiring the property and building the new fire station.
