Crime in Moraga: Creepy Kid Stalker, Cardboard Criminals, A Teen's Rude Awakening

A report came in from CVS Pharmacy regarding a woman who attempted to purchase some gift cards with a pre-paid gift card, and when she was asked for her ID, which is store policy, she refused and left without the gift cards. A little while later, another woman, also in her 20s, came in and was seen stuffing a bunch of gift cards in her purse. When she was confronted by a store employee, she dumped the cards out of her purse and walked out. The manager thought both incidents were related. And one can certainly understand why both women would be indignant. Imagine, having to pay for something. The nerve.

The Great Moraga Cardboard Heist caper was thwarted when a driver confronted some men removing cardboard from the rear of Safeway. The would-be cardboard thieves got in their car and drove off, but not before hitting the other person’s car, who was partially blocking the driveway, causing minor damage.

It was on Fernwood Dr. that police arrived and broke up a major “Doorbell Ditch” gang, who were ringing doorbells in the neighborhood and then running off. Police returned the hardened criminals to the home where they were having a sleepover, and peace was restored to the neighborhood once again.

An employee of Subway reported that around 10:30 p.m., a couple of men in their early 20s came into the store through the back door, obviously well into their cups. When the employee asked them to leave, one of the guys came at the employee, but was held back by the other guy, and both of them finally left.

Police are investigating a report that a man followed a 12-year-old girl home from school on Corliss Dr. near Crossbrook Court, after she was dropped off by the school bus. The girl went into her house and the man stood by the road, then walked away. Let’s hope he walked off to another country. Keep an eye peeled, Moraga.

Police received a report that a PG&E cherry picker—you know, those tractor-like machines with a crane that lifts workers to various heights—was driving recklessly and forcing cars off the road near the corner of Moraga Rd. and Rheem Blvd. The cherry picker was last seen crossing into Lafayette. Police could not find the vehicle, and the license number was not registered with DMV.

In another disturbing report, a truck hauling cars was seen weaving and driving in the wrong lane on Moraga Way before getting on the freeway. Police could not find this driver, either.

A woman was arrested in the Rheem Shopping Center for driving under the influence. She was later found to have a blood alcohol content of .20 percent. She was released to a friend on a promise to appear in court.

Police received a call from a distraught mom who told police her two teenage sons were refusing to get out of bed and go to school. When police arrived, the oldest son had already gone, but the 13-year-old remained prone and apparently in no mood for education that day. Police advised the young man to get his keester up and out the door. He complied.
