Man Dies In Highway 24 Crash

The CHP reports that an overturned vehicle slammed into a light pole.

LAMORINDA, CA — A 60-year-old man from Brentwood was killed in a crash on westbound Highway 24 at the Wilder Road off-ramp just before 5 a.m. Thursday. The victim's name has not been released.

The California Highway Patrol reports that a Ford Ranger was driven off the road, it "overturned and the roof of the Ford slammed into a metal light pole. The Ford sustained major damage and its roof was crushed."

The driver was alone in the pickup.

A sig-alert was issued at 5:38 a.m. and canceled at 6:50, when Wilder Road reopened. The crash caused a significant backup.

Caltrans was contacted to repair the pole.

Earlier it was reported that the fatality happened in a multi-vehicle crash, but that was a separate incident in which no one died.
