Lafayette Emergency Panel To Discuss Wildfires

The panel will discuss wildfire preps including evacuation plans. California experienced its driest rainy season since 1977.

LAMORINDA, CA —The City of Lafayette knows fire season comes early in 2021, which is why its Emergency Preparedness Commission this week will discuss preparing for the coming drought and what is likely to be another long summer and fall of wildfires.

Lafayette has escaped major wildfire events in recent years. But much of the community is built on and between the hillsides adjoining already-dry Las Trampas Regional Wilderness and Briones Hills.

By the end of April, the East Bay Municipal Utility District already declared a Stage 1 drought in the area, with last season's rainfall the lowest since 1977.
