Man Killed In Highway 24 Crash ID'd

The rollover crash happened Thursday morning.

LAMORINDA, CA — A man who died when his truck went off westbound state Highway 24 in Orinda early Thursday morning has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 60-year-old Brentwood resident Rodrigo Garcia-Onofre.

Officers responded at 4:54 a.m. to the crash reported on westbound Highway 24 at the Wilder Road off-ramp just east of the Caldecott Tunnel and arrived to find a red Ford Ranger had overturned and hit a metal light pole, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Garcia-Onofre, the truck's sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
