Man Killed In Lamorinda Forklift Accident Identified

Cal/OSHA says the victim was driving a forklift to load and unload paver stones when the accident happened. (Breaking)

LAMORINDA, CA — The Contra Costa County coroner's office has identified the man killed in a forklift accident in Lafayette on Monday. Edwin Gomez-Zarate, 35, was a resident of Livermore.

Gomez-Zarate died shortly after 3 p.m. when Lafayette police were sent to a worksite in the 800 block of Avalon Avenue near Stanley Park. California Division of Occupational Safety and Health officials said Gomez-Zarate was driving a forklift to load and unload paver stones for a landscaping company when he became trapped in or by something.

Cal/OSHA officials said they could not immediately release any more information about the case.

Gomez-Zarate died before he could be treated at a hospital.

The case remains under investigation by Lafayette police and Cal/OSHA.
