Moraga Police: What Part of 'Slow Down' is Confusing You?

The police in Moraga face danger every day. No, not from violent criminals who pose a threat to the safety of the town (though they're ready for that, so don't get any idea, bad guys). In Moraga, the police are in danger of getting writer's cramp from writing so many speeding tickets.

That's right, Moraga, it turns out, writes the most speeding citations than any other city in the Bay Area, according to a poll by KPIX.

The survey concluded that, with a town of 16,016 people, Moraga police handed out 837 speeding tickets last year. That comes out to .052 tickets for every man, woman and child in town.

Comparably, Walnut Creek, with a population of 65,211, wrote 416 tickets last year, or a ratio of .006.

So the message is clear: if you must drive too fast, don't try it in Moraga. Maybe give Walnut Creek a shot.

In honor of this, um, honor, Lamorinda Patch decided to post one of the greatest speeding scenes of all time, starring Steve McQueen, a man who did his own stunts. That's really him driving the Mustang through the streets of San Francisco in this 1968 film "Bullit."
