Fire District Presentation to Orinda, Moraga Councils

One item in Monday meeting in Orinda focuses on potential joint operation of new fire station on the Orinda-Lafayette border.

The Orinda City Council and the Moraga Town Council are getting together to discuss fire district issues.

The two deliberative bodies have a joint meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Orinda Library Auditorium, 26 Orinda Way, Orinda.

On the agenda for the two councils is a presentation by Moraga-Orinda Fire District Chief Randy Bradley. It's a regular annual meeting the two councils have to get update on MOFD issues.

One topic will be fire district positioning. On April 24, MOFD board members authorized Bradley to pay the rest of a $15,000 deposit for land to build a new fire station on the Orinda-Lafayette border, the Contra Costa Times reported. This conforms with earlier MOFD plans to upgrade Fire Station 43 and the need for coverage in west Lafayette attended by the recent closing of Station 16 of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

MOFD and ConFire have been in negotiations for the joint operation of a new station on El Nido Ranch Road on the Lafayette-Orinda border.
