LAMORINDA, CA — From City Hall to the White House, Tuesday’s election is crucial. Voters have marked their ballots for their chosen leaders, on tax measures, and proposals that will shape California for generations to come.

Orinda residents are deciding on a tax hike. Measure R would raise the citywide sales tax from one-half cent to a full one cent.

More than 675,000 people are registered to vote here in Contra Costa County, according to the latest voter registration numbers from Secretary of State Alex Padilla's office.

Contra Costa County residents have stepped up to help with this year's election. "We have had a surplus of workers for months," said Scott Konopasek, assistant registrar of voters in Contra Costa County. "People have been selfless in their willingness to serve this election. We have turned down hundreds of volunteers."
