Police Log: A Rash of Car Thefts, DUIs, and Non-Injury Accidents

A woman reported that she was bit by a dog in Camino Pablo Park the night before. She did not seek medical attention, but had photographs of the dog bite.

A 3-year-old child on Fleuti Dr. was temporarily stuck in some play equipment, but mom rescued him before officers arrived, and all is well.

On the 100 block of Miramonte Dr., a construction worker heard the sound of his nearby truck’s engine start, and watched helplessly as the truck sped away. He didn’t get a good look at the driver, and police were unable to find the stolen truck.

On the 700 block of Moraga Rd., a resident reported a flyer placed on their door reputedly from a bank offering a refinance. The alert resident called the bank in question, who advised them they were making no such offer. This was clearly someone trying to obtain personal information. Be wary.

On the 300 block of Deerfield Dr., a woman reported the theft of her purse, $200 and several credit cards therein. The purse was stolen from her car, which was locked, but the windows were down.

On the 100 block of Miramonte Dr., a resident reported that someone had damaged the ignition switch in his car, in what was probably an attempt to steal it. Nearby was a gas can and car washing equipment.

On the 400 block of Stonefield Dr., a resident reported a $400 purse and $500 blender was stolen while the family was on vacation. The home is for sale, and there was on open house while they were gone.

On Campolindo Dr. and Moraga Rd., police responded to a 77-year-old woman who was “looking down” when her car left the roadway and hit a fence. The woman was unharmed.

On the 500 block of Moraga Rd., a woman told police she thought she saw someone walking alone near the Rheem Theater who fit the description of a missing at-risk man she read about in the Lamorinda Patch. Police were unable to locate the man.

On the 100 block of Corliss Dr., a report of a suspicious youngster walking along the fence line of a pear orchard turned out to be four youngsters playing paintball in the orchard. Because of their location, police couldn’t get to them, but watched as they left the area.

On the 1000 block of Camino Pablo, a father reported that his son rode his bike to school and went on a field trip. When the boy returned, the bike and helmet were gone. A search of the area failed to turn up the missing bike.

On the 1900 block of Joseph Dr., a woman reported that a pile of pavers previously stacked on a nearby wall were now placed along the edges of her driveway. She told police she had no idea who would do that.

On the 300 block of Moraga Rd., the owner of an Audi called police to complain that a 72-hour removal sticker had been placed on the car and orange paint marked the tires. The car was for sale, the owner explained, and the appearance that it was abandoned could lower the sale price. Police explained that moving the car within 72 hours would solve the parking issue, but they could not remove the orange paint on the tires.

On the 1200 block of Rimer Dr., a man reported that one or more people were knocking on his door and running away when he answered. During one of these episodes, his car alarm went off, but when he checked his car, it was fine. No other reports of this kind came in from the neighborhood.

On Moraga Rd. and Campolindo Dr., officers responded to a car that hit a traffic pole. There were no injuries.

On Camino Peral and Alta Mesa, a truck was stolen.

At Bollinger Valley Rd. and Valley Hil, police responded to a report of a car colliding with mailboxes. When they arrived, they found a car that was blocking the road, and two passengers inside, both asleep. The driver still had a foot on the brake. He was given a sobriety test and blood test, and had an alcohol level of .10 percent. He was released to a sober driver after promising to appear in court.

On the 200 block of Rheem Blvd., a Jeep driven by an 18-year-old driver collided with a mailbox after she lost control trying to avoid a collision with a car stopped to make a left turn. No one was injured.

On Moraga Rd. and Buckingham Dr., a 16-year-old girl was clocked at driving 50 mph. She also had a minor in the car, in violation of her license restriction. She was enrolled in a juvenile driving program and required to attend a driving safety class.

On Corte Yolanda, a resident reported the theft of a camera and garage door opener from an unlocked truck.

On the 200 block of Paseo Del Rio, a resident reported the theft of a computer from his car. The windows were left slightly down, which was enough for the  thief to gain entry.

On the 3000 block of Via Granada, two pair of prescription sunglasses were stolen from a car. The owner said he left the doors unlocked so the windows didn’t get smashed.

On the 800 block of Augusta Dr., a resident reported receiving a call from someone saying they were a computer tech, and for a fee would remove a virus from the resident’s computer. The caller kept asking for the resident’s credit card number, which was never provided.

The 23-year-old at-risk man who had been reported missing the previous week was located and transported to county hospital for mental evaluation.
