SMC MFA Graduate Student Reading - Nov. 14

Join the SMC MFA program on November 14, 2018, at the SMC campus in De La Salle Hall: Hagerty Lounge in Moraga, for a night of electrifying readings from our very own MFA candidates. The evening’s stellar authors include: Victoria Billings, Guy Duran, Terry Taplin, and Thomas Wallace.

Doors open at 7:30pm; readings begin at 7:45. The event will include delectable treats and adult beverages.

Victoria Billings is a poet, designer, and editor, inspired by women’s experiences, familial ties, religious storytelling traditions, and gardening with the seasons. She loves her cats, her spouse, going to the farmer’s market on Saturday mornings, and, most of all, the little lettuces that are poking up in her garden beds.

Guy Duran was introduced to sci-fi at age 11. At 12, Guy resolved to be a writer. At 18, he learned of punk rock. At 19, he became a punk rocker. At 23, he was an assistant manager. At 26, he became an MFA student at St. Mary’s. No matter where life takes him, Guy will always be a writer. That is a promise to his 11-year-old self. And Guy doesn’t break promises.

Terry Taplin is the inaugural Lambda Literary Fellow. He holds a BA in Classical Languages: Greek and Latin. He is a former slam champion and the recipient of the Ina Coolbrith Prize for Undergraduate Poetry (academic year 2014-15). Terry’s work has appeared in PARADISE NOW and Baest: A Journal of Queer Forms and Affects, which he also co-edits. He is the author of fragmenta (Marigold, 2016).

Thomas Wallace was a communication major as an undergraduate at SMC before he was accepted into the MFA program as a nonfiction candidate. In his free time, he is often outside playing rugby. He’s working on a memoir on his experiences and evolution through playing the game.

The SMC MFA in Creative Writing offers students a campus environment that feels like a writing retreat within the bustling Bay Area.
