Special Meeting Monday to Discuss Merged Fire Stations
MOFD chief is eyeing a property on Lorinda Lane for the site of a new fire house.

Citing the chance to save nearly $1 million a year, the Moraga-Orinda fire chief is recommending that the district’s governing board continue to investigate merging an MOFD station with one operated by Con Fire only 1.5 miles away.
“It is very rare to have two fire stations within 1.5 miles in a very low density residential area with a very low call volume,” Chief Randall Bradley wrote in a report to the board in advance of a Monday meeting where the subject will be discussed.
The chief also wrote that fire district officials have found a property that is “ideal for combining” the two stations. Located at 1035 Lorinda Lane, there is currently a three-bedroom, one-bath house on the 2.33-acre property. The property costs $1.2 million.
While current zoning would permit a fire station on the parcel, “significant city approvals would be required.”
