Special Olympics Athletes Toe Acalanes Starting Line
Update: Rep. Eric Swalwell will open the Bay Area Games are on Tuesday at Acalanes High in Lafayette.

Updated, 3 p.m. Monday, Congressman Eric Swalwell, D-Dublin, will open the competition, the organizers say.
The Acalanes High track will be filled with dreams of Olympic glory on Tuesday, April 30.
The Lafayette high school will host the Bay Area Games for the Special Olympics starting at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies. Organizers are expecting more than 200 students from Contra Costa County, 100 from San Francisco, 100 from San Mateo and 50 from the Tri-Valley area.

Serving as peer partners and timers, more than 150 non-disable students from Acalanes High will volunteer, the Special Olympics press release reports.
“Seeing the positive impact on students in Contra Costa County, we are continuing our partnership with Special Olympics Northern California to bring together students from across the Bay Area,” said Chuck Taylor, vice president of strategic planning for Chevron Corp. and vice chairman of Special Olympics Northern California Board of Directors.
