Who Lives In Lamorinda?

The Census Bureau's latest figures show a profile of Lamorinda according to age, income and ethnicity

If you are white, about 45 years old, have a college degree and earn between $120,000 and $160,000 a year, then you are a typical Lamorinda resident.

The latest Census Bureau figures released by the state Department of Finance show who lives in Lamorinda by age, income, education and ethnicity.

Here is a breakdown of those statistics by city.

Lafayette

The Census estimates there are 24,073 people living in Lafayette. That makes it the largest of the three Lamorinda towns.

The median age is 44.5. Of those, 80 percent are white, 7 percent are Asian, 7 percent are Hispanic or Latino and 0.8 percent are black.

About 98 percent of Lafayette residents have at least a high school diploma. About 6 percent have just that diploma, 12 percent attended college but didn't earn a degree, 6 percent have an associate degree, 40 percent have a bachelor's degree and 33 percent have a graduate degree.

The median household income is $136,438 a year while the annual per capita income is $67,220.

Moraga

The Census estimates 16,167 people live in Moraga. That makes it the smallest of the three Lamorinda towns.

The median age is 43.6. That makes it the youngest of the three towns. St. Mary's College students who list Moraga as their address are counted.

About 73 percent of Moraga residents are white, 14 percent are Asian, 7 percent are Hispanic or Latino and 1.3 percent are black.

About 98 percent of Moraga residents have at least a high school diploma. About 5 percent have just that diploma, 12 percent attended college but didn't earn a degree, 6 percent have an associate degree, 39 percent have a bachelor's degree and 36 percent have a graduate degree.

The median household income is $119,416 a year while the annual per capita income is $56,801. Those are the lowest figures in Lamorinda, but again some St. Mary's College students are counted in all the figures.

Orinda

The Census estimates 17,868 people live in Orinda.

The median age is 46.1. That's the oldest of the three Lamorinda towns.

About 75 percent of Orinda residents are white, 11 percent are Asian, 6 percent are Hispanic or Latino and 1.6 percent are black.

About 98 percent of Orinda residents have at least a high school diploma. About 5 percent have just that diploma, 11 percent attended college but didn't earn a degree, 4 percent have an associate degree, 41 percent have a bachelor's degree and 37 percent have a graduate degree.

The median household income is $162,267 a year while the annual per capita income is $78,306. Those are the highest of the three Lamorinda communities.
