​Bon Air Bridge​ In Larkspur To Close For Replacement Work

LARKSPUR, CA – The Bon Air Bridge is closing to vehicle traffic from 6 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. the following Sunday, the City of Larkspur has announced.

The closure is between medical offices at 18 Bon Air Road to South Eliseo Drive, but the sidewalk on bridge will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists who walk their bikes across.

The alternate route is Magnolia Avenue to College Avenue to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Detour signs will be in place and the city advises to expect delays and plan accordingly.

Work may be completed ahead of the planned date, the city noted in an announcement.

The closure is the first of three planned for work to construct a new bridge intended to be safer for users.

The bridge is "one of the main entrances to the City of Larkspur and is a vital thoroughfare linking Magnolia Avenue, Larkspur's main street, and the northeast side of the city," according to the website for the project.

"In the over 50 years since it was built, tidal flows have eroded key components of the bridge," according to the website. "Replacing the bridge is a long-term, cost-effective solution that, in addition to significantly lengthening the bridge's lifespan, improves access for pedestrians and bicycles and incorporates community-driven design elements."

The cost of the project is estimated to be $27 million.
