LARKSPUR CA – August 18, 2020 The Commons Foundation has given the Larkspur Library a $34,600 grant to increase funding for physical and virtual library materials and services.

Due to Covid-19, the City of Larkspur projected a $2.7 Million revenue shortfall in the 2020-21 budget and reduced the Larkspur Library budget for 2020-21 to $634,095 down $284,768 or 31% from 2019-2020.

The Commons Foundation grant increases funding for Library curbside pickup and drop off, audio, print and e-book acquisitions, services to aid in job search and new job skills development, online tutoring for students and adults, and improvements to the library’s website and social media.

“With this new support from The Commons Foundation we will be able to expand our current physical and virtual holdings,” said Franklin Escobedo, Larkspur’s Director of Community Services (and Librarian). “We focused purchases where we can help many of our neighbors who are currently out of jobs or looking to start a new career.”

“The Commons Foundation and The Friends of the Larkspur Library will continue to raise funds for the Larkspur Library to help the community during these difficult times,” said Joe Jennings, President, The Commons Foundation. “Libraries are essential social infrastructure that people rely on every day.
