Construction on the Corte Madera Marsh restoration project will begin on Monday, October 26 and continue through January 31, 2021. The project will restore four acres out of a 72-acre District-owned parcel to tidal marsh, bolstering the habitat for endangered species and adding amenities along a reconfigured recreational path.

Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through January 2021. During construction, portions of the northern berm and informal trail will be removed and inaccessible to the public (see map). Construction and trail signage will be posted at and around the work site.

Once complete, recreational users will have access to a new berm around the restored tidal marsh that will connect into the remaining portions of the trail, creating a loop similar to the existing trail. The District will also be installing new benches, trash cans, and native plants along the reconfigured recreational loop. The new loop trail will be fully open to the public once construction is complete in early 2021.

The Corte Madera Marsh restoration project is part of an agreement to restore four acres of a 72-acre District-owned parcel associated with operations at the Larkspur Ferry Terminal. The project includes grading approximately fourteen acres, relocating portions of the existing berms, breaching the northern berm to allow flooding during high tides, and restoring native marsh vegetation. Once complete, the project will serve as habitat for endangered wildlife, including Ridgeway’s Rail.

For more information on the project, visit the Corte Madera Marsh Restoration project page on the District's website or call the Golden Gate Customer Service Center at 415-455-2000 weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
