Tony Thurmond - “. . . it currently appears that our students will not be able to return to school campuses before the end of the school year.”
Today Tony Thurmond, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, sent a memo to superintendents about the possible extension of school closures through the remainder of the year. Here is an article from the San Francisco Chronicle. This is similar to Governor Newsom’s statement in a press conference on March 18, 2020.
Please note, this is not an official announcement that LCMSD will be closed for the rest of the year. I will be meeting with Marin superintendents tomorrow to discuss this memo further and will seek clarification from the California Department of Education, Marin County Department of Public Health, and other local and state partners.

Family Food Fund
Working in partnership with our neighboring school districts, we are raising funds to provide grocery gift cards to the approximately 1,000 Southern Marin public school students who qualify for free and reduced lunch.
We have had a great initial response to our fundraising effort. In just a few days, community donations have totaled nearly $100,000!
100% of funds raised go directly to buy grocery cards, and your donations are tax-deductible through our partner, Adopt a Family. Please help us reach our goal of $500,000 by donating today, so that we can distribute the grocery cards the week of spring break. If you have any questions, please email our volunteer donation coordinator.

SPARK Update
We hope that during this uncertain time you are all staying healthy and safe.
In light of the current shelter-in-place ordinance and the school closures through May 1st, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the SPARK Spring Spotlight Auction and Gala scheduled for May 2, 2020.
With approximately $300K left to meet our $1.5M goal, canceling our largest fundraising event has significant financial implications. As a result, the SPARK Board is working on alternate fundraising plans to ensure that we are able to come closer to our goal, which is primarily used for teacher’s salaries and benefits.
In the meantime, we want to invite you to support our neighbors and community members in Marin and beyond who have been severely affected by COVID-19. Some ways to do this include:
Donate to Adopt a Family of Marin’s COVID-19 Family Food Fund which will distribute gift cards for groceries to families who are the most vulnerable in the Southern Marin school districts and who qualify for support. For more information refer to LCMSD website.
Support our SPARK Biz partners when possible:
Restaurant partners are offering take-out options and retailers are selling gift certificates to redeem when they reopen.
Grocery store partners have been working hard to keep shelves stocked and recently added senior shopping hours for the elderly and and those who are at-risk due to health conditions.
Learning partners are offering remote tutoring to support students in their transition to distance learning.
We have featured many of these businesses and the details of their promotions on our Instagram and Facebook pages. Now more than ever we encourage you to support the businesses who support our schools.
We are so grateful for our incredible community who have generously supported SPARK through the Online Auction and throughout this year.
We will get through this together with kindness and generosity.
New Campus Hours After Spring Break
Our custodial and maintenance team has been hard at work deep cleaning all three campuses. This work will be completed by April 10th. Therefore, campus hours will shift in order to provide custodians with a limited on-site schedule (this is for their health and safety).
Beginning April 13th:
Work packet pick up will only be on Tuesdays between 8:00-11:00. Teachers will notify you if there are packets to be picked up. Additionally, they will be sent PDF.
Lunch will be picked up for the entire week on Mondays
Important Lunch Information - MONDAY LUNCH SERVICE ONLY
Starting April 6th, the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District will be partnering with our lunch provider LunchMaster to provide five days of lunch in one package, once a week for each student. Pick up location is Hall Middle School.
All LCMSD students are able to receive a lunch at no cost. LCMSD wants all families to feel comfortable accepting help in this time of need. Please do not order lunch online, we are pre-ordering lunches to be delivered fresh Monday morning.
LCMSD will be handing out boxed lunches on Monday's only at Hall Middle School. The hours for pick up are 11am - 12:00pm. This new process will help limit exposure to everyone involved.
Please come pick up an entire weeks worth of lunches that are securely packaged within one box.
The menu for the week of 4/6/2020 is:
Breaded Chicken Sandwich
Hamburger
Hot Dog
Turkey & Cheddar Sandwich
Pasta with Turkey meat sauce
All boxes will include fruit, veggie and milk
*Vegetarian options available upon request
If you are unable to pick up the lunch at Hall Middle School on Monday during 11am - noon, please contact Nichole Urrea, nurrea@lcmschools.org to coordinate other arrangements.
Take care,
