Marin General Named Among the Best Hospitals in U.S.

The honor was given by a national non-profit organization.

MARIN COUNTY, CA -- On Dec. 6, Marin General Hospital was recognized as one of the top hospitals in the United States by a national non-profit hospital watchdog group.

The recognition came from the Leapfrog Group, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization that pushes for leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care.

Leapfrog's "Top Hospital" designation is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive distinctions a U.S. hospital can receive, and it honors only elite performers dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care. Less than three percent of American hospitals earn the award.

“I am sincerely proud of the care team at Marin General Hospital for their commitment to the values and needs of our community, their exceptional collaboration, and intense dedication to providing high-quality, safe patient care,” Marin General CEO Lee Domanico said in a statement.

“It is the vision of Marin General Hospital to exceed each community member’s highest expectations for quality health care and being named among the top three percent of all hospitals in the country for clinical excellence proves we are well on our way to doing just that,” Domanico said.

The selection of Top Hospitals is based on the results of the 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care, and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors. The standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital methodology.

Marin General Hospital was one of 115 top hospitals recognized around the country overall this year, and among 56 top general hospitals. The Top Hospitals list includes nine children’s hospitals; 56 general hospitals; 21 rural hospitals; and 29 teaching hospitals.

“With this honor, Marin General Hospital has established its commitment to safer and higher quality care,” Leapfrog Group President and CEO Leah Binder said. “Providing this level of care to patients in Marin County requires motivation and drive from every team member. I congratulate the board, staff and clinicians, whose efforts made this honor possible.”
