Weekend Planner: Clean Up Corte Madera Creek

Here are some of the highlights happening around the Larkspur and Corte Madera Twin Cities area August 3-5.

Corte Madera Creek is a sensitive and diverse ecological area that many residents of Marin enjoy for its great views, multi-use paths and parks. It's home to the California clapper rail, geese, otters and more critters. Here’s a
special opportunity to help these species thrive.

Join REI, Save The Bay, and Marin County Parks for Ring Around the Bay on Saturday, a morning of volunteer stewardship activities to restore native wetland habitat around the Bay.There will be work at four sites around the Bay Area, including Hal Brown Park at Creekside.

Work will entail cleaning up the shoreline and removing invasive plant species. No prior experience is necessary; Save The Bay will provide work gloves, tools, and project supervision. Ages seven and older are welcome to participate; anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Each participant will be required to sign liability release forms for REI and Save The Bay, before commencing any project activities.

• Film Night: Come a little early to enjoy the sunset over Corte Madera Creek, then settle in for movie night at Hal Brown Park on Friday at 8 p.m. The night will have a tasty theme, with the feature film Ratatouille and delicious eats from a gourmet food truck. Ratatouille follows the dream of a rat who wants to be a great chef. The free film starts at dusk. This Film Night in the Park and Marin County Parks joint presentation celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Marin County Parks.

• Winter, already?: Believe it or not, now is the time to start planning your winter garden. You can grow your own greens, garlic, onions and more. Welcome Lindsay Dailey of Homesteading Marin to Sloat Garden Center in Kentfield on Saturday at 10 a.m. She will discuss design and planting tips for getting your winter veggie garden started.

• Farmers Market: What's your best find at the farmers market? Share your secrets and recipes from the market on Larkspur-Corte Madera Patch. Head on over to the Marin Country Mart Farmers Market in Larkspur every Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and be inspired by the bounty of fresh, local produce. • Corte Madera Concert Series: The Jonny Darlin Band will be rocking your socks off with their oldies but goldies, playing music of the 50's and digging the sounds of Little Richard, Dion, The Drifters, Fats Domino and more. This free Summer Concert, sponsored by the Corte Madera Community Foundation, will be on Sunday, August 5, 5-6 p.m., at Piccolo Pavilion in Old Corte Madera Square, the little park at the bottom of the hill where Tamalpais Drive meets Corte Madera Avenue.
