Popular Livermore Winery For Sale

The 230-acre property with a high production capacity was first listed last year.

LIVERMORE, CA — The Concannon Vineyard property, spanning buildings from 4590 to 4596 Tesla Road, is for sale.

The 230-acre property features a tasting room for visitors, two bottling lines, a tank farm and 182 acres of vineyards, as Wine Business first reported. The 77,280-square-foot production warehouse produces 1,030 tons each year.

The Wine Group is seeking to sell the property for an undisclosed amount of money, a real estate listing shows. The Wine Group purchased Concannon in 2002, Wine Spectator reported. The Wine Group sells Franzia boxed wine, kosher brand Mogen David and others such as Glen Ellen and Corbett Canyon, the magazine reported.

The Wine Group is seeking to sell the property to leverage production capacity available to the company elsewhere, said Brooks Pedder, the company's real estate agent. Concannon Vineyards has a high capacity for bottling wine and crushing grapes beyond what the surrounding vineyard needs.

"It's just a big operation," he said. "It's not a hobby."

The property was listed at the end of 2019 and some potential buyers had expressed interest, but Pedder said the property has received more attention since it was posted online.

Concannon was founded in 1883 by James Concannon, who was among the first to make Bordeaux-style wines in the Golden State, according to the company's website. He found the Livermore Valley's climate similar to France and preferable to the Napa Valley.

He continued the business through Prohibition, eventually working with his grandson. The family has continued to manage the winery, the company said.

Brewing company Guinness owned Concannon at one point. Guiness bought the company in 1986 and sold it to winemaker Sergio Traverso in 1988, The Los Angeles Times reported.
