Vintage Dream House: 1957 Time Capsule Hits LA Market

WOW House: It was a sensation in 1957, and it still is. This remarkable vintage treasure is virtually unchanged from its swank 50s heyday.

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, CA — For vintage loving house hunters, the 1957 Research House is heart-stopping, or better yet, time-stopping. Stepping into this home is like stepping back in time. Even the furniture of its 1950s heyday remains in place.

The 1957 Research House, like it's more renowned Case Study relatives, was designed to showcase and push the boundaries of midcentury modern. Hundreds of thousands came to see it when it was opened to the public in 1957 as a sort of model home.

Designers from the Barker Bothers Furniture Company provided the interior decor to match the swank late 50s splendor of the home, and many of the pieces remain in the home today. Massive glass walls and sloping ceilings draw the eyes to the valley views and the California shaped pool.
