Seasonal & Holidays

Californians Among Top Holiday Spenders in the U.S.

Did you know that residents of CA are spending more than most other Americans on holiday gifts?

The tree is decorated, holiday mugs have been pulled out of storage to be filled with hot cocoa or pumpkin flavored coffee, everyone's feeling festive, and the stressful task of holiday shopping is in full swing.

Hopefully you still have enough money in your bank account for gifts and haven’t blown it all this year on the unstoppable juggernaut that is avocado toast (so worth the price, though!). It’s especially important since, this may be news to you, but as a Californian you’re expected to be generous this year... really generous in fact.

A recent study conducted by by Snapfish found that California is one of the most generous states in the country and is among the top spenders when it comes to holiday gift giving. Californians spend more than $1,000 on average on gifts for family and friends. That’s a lot of money spent on gifts compared to states like our neighbors in Arizona who are spending $100 or less on all gifts for the holiday season.

When it comes to gift giving, Californians don’t seem to care about the cost and are more generous than the average American who spends between $101 - $500 on holiday gifts.

It seems Californians aren’t afraid of speaking their mind either and are open to returning gifts that just don’t fit the bill. The majority of Californians say it’s okay to return a gift. Gift recipients in these eight states do not agree and think it’s not acceptable to return a gift: Alaska, Idaho, Indiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Vermont, Virginia, and Wyoming.

Hopefully, we aren’t all spending our money buying tacky California themed gifts for everyone this Holiday season and losing friends through jealousy in the process. After all, we know we live in the best state so why not remind everyone about that this Holiday season?
