This is the fourth year that students across the state in grades 3-8 and grade 11 have taken the exam, known as the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress.
The test scores will make up a key ingredient of the California School Dashboard, a new system for evaluating school performance. The state Department of Education will use the test results in conjunction with suspension rates, graduation rates, chronic absenteeism figures, college and career readiness data, and other measures to determine if schools and districts are making adequate progress.
