Paramedic and firefighter personnel hiked up to the area and determined that the individual died as a result of injuries sustained from the fall.
"Khoshnevis came across the ridge-line from "Dragon's Tail," an out of bounds from the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area," officials said. "He was attempting to ride 'Hole in the Wall,' a favorite back-country chute, but it is not accessible from the approach he took."

The tragic death was a reminder that ski area boundaries are established for the safety of all, the department said, adding that all skiers and snowboarders should "have a plan, ride with a partner, know your route and carry proper equipment."
