Racehorse Suffers Fatal Injuries At Los Alamitos Race Course

A 3-year-old gelding became the fourth fatal injury at that track since January, amid scrutiny of the sport by animal rights activists.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Horse racing in southern California was once again put under the microscope, this time after the death of a 3-year-old gelding.

Chickititas Favorite, a 3-year-old gelding, was fatally injured in a race Sunday at Los Alamitos Race Course, according to state records. The horse's death was the first at the race course this month.

Radio Tim, a 3-year-old gelding, and Street Machine, a 5-year-old gelding, were injured on Feb. 21 and died.

Four horses sustained fatal injuries in January at the race course.

Horse racing has drawn scrutiny since 37 horses died at Santa Anita racetrack in Arcadia during the 2018-19 racing season.
