Seal Beach Allows Temporary Outdoor Dining, Business Permits
Seal Beach businesses attempting to stay open amid the coronavirus pandemic can now apply for outdoor use permits for dining and shopping.
SEAL BEACH, CA —The City of Seal Beach has opened up their temporary outdoor dining and shopping program. A newly permitted use of parking spaces, in the form of parklets, are changing the way Seal Beach does business.
In March, the majority of Seal Beach restaurants and shops closed their doors due to the coronavirus pandemic. The idea of shopping and eating outdoors has become favorable across Orange County. Laguna Beach's model of Promenade on Forest Ave. is continuing after positive reviews of their outdoor dining and shopping experiences. Seal Beach has similar hopes for their businesses.
This week, the city of Seal Beach opened up the permitting process.

"Due to limited outdoor space available for restaurants to establish outdoor dining in the Main Street business corridor, temporary dining parklets are being allowed," the city of Seal Beach says.
Up to two angle parking spaces or a single parallel parking space can be used to create or expand outdoor dining.

"The City will provide barricades for placement between the parklet and the fronting street while the restaurant will furnish the parklet space," they said.
