Shark Sighting Closes Sunset Beach

A 10-foot shark was sighted near 23rd Street. The closure is expected to last until Friday.

The sighting of a 10-foot shark has prompted lifeguards to close the waters off the Sunset Beach, according to the Huntington Beach Fire Department.

The shark was spotted about 3:20 p.m. near 23rd Street. The closure is expected to last until Friday, a department supervisor says.

Small great white sharks have been spotted in the area throughout the summer, but juvenile great whites under 8-feet long are not considered a serious threat to humans.
