Assemblyman Gordon chairs the Assembly Committee on Business, Professions and Consumer Protection.

December is the month for formal swearing-in ceremonies, and we wanted to include that of Rich Gordon (D-Menlo Park) was sworn into the California State Assembly in Sacramento.
Los Altans were already familiar with Rich Gordon by the time he ran for the newly drawn 24th Assembly district, which changed its boundaries through the work of the citizens redistricting committee. Sunnyvale and Mountain View were folded into the old 22nd Assembly District which also includes the communities of: North Fair Oaks, Atherton, Menlo Park, East Palo Alto, Woodside, Portola Valley, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and the San Mateo County Coastside – from El Granada to the county border.

“It is an honor to represent the 24th District, and I look forward to engaging with new constituents and working on a diverse set of issues,” said Gordon. “While much progress has been made in solving the state’s structural deficit problems, serious challenges still lie ahead. Much work remains before us. I assume my new responsibilities with an understanding of the volatility we are emerging from and a belief in our ability to make California golden once again.”
First elected to the State Assembly in 2010, Gordon achieved a successful first term having 74 percent of his bills signed by Governor Brown, making him among the most productive members in the Legislature. In August, Gordon was appointed to chair the Assembly Committee on Business, Professions and Consumer Protection. For nearly two years, Gordon chaired the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Natural Resources and Transportation (Budget Sub-3), landing him the title of “Recycling Legislator of the Year” by the non-profit environmental group, Californians Against Waste. For the past year, Gordon has also served as the Chair of the LGBT Caucus.
Prior to joining the Assembly, Gordon served on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisor for 13 years where he worked to achieve government accountability by leading the county in the development of outcome-based budgeting.
Gordon was accompanied by his husband, Dr. Dennis McShane, for the swearing-in ceremony. The oath of office was administered by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge M.L. Villar de Longoria.
