Attorney from Portola Valley Named Superior Court Judge

Governor Brown chose Elizabeth Peterson for the Santa Clara County seat left open after the retirement of Judge Edward Davila.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – A trial lawyer from Portola Valley has been appointed as a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge by Gov. Jerry Brown, Brown's office announced.

Elizabeth C. Peterson, 45, will fill a vacancy left when Judge Edward Davila retired.

Peterson is a partner at the Palo Alto office of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati, according to Brown's office.

From 2007 to 2008, Peterson was counsel at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP. Before that she was an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Minnesota from 2002 to 2007.

From 1997 to 2002 she was an associate at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP, according to the governor's office.

Peterson holds a doctorate of law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and a bachelor's degree from Smith College.

Peterson will be paid $191,612 as a judge. She is a Democrat.
