Midpen Board Endorses Proposition 68

The statewide environmental bond measure goes before voters June 5.

From the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District: The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District’s Board of Directors endorsed Proposition 68 at their regular public meeting last night. The parks, environment and water bond was placed on the ballot by the state Legislature, and goes before California voters June 5.

If passed, Proposition 68 would provide $4 billion for a wide range of environmental projects across urban, suburban and rural California. These include efforts to protect drinking water supplies, conserve wildlife and natural resources and provide access to parks for all.

“We endorse Proposition 68 because it aligns with Midpen's mission of environmental preservation, restoration and public enjoyment of parks and open space,” said Board President Jed Cyr. “Proposition 68 would also make significant grant funding available for local parks and open space projects that Midpen, and many of our regional partners, are well positioned to compete for.”

Other resources proposed in Proposition 68 that would specifically benefit the Bay Area include $3 million to protect the Los Gatos Creek and the Guadalupe River watersheds, over $200 million for California State Parks and $21 million for the San Francisco Bay Program of the California Coastal Conservancy.
