Pedestrian Killed In Hit-and-Run Crash Identified

The Santa Clara Medical Examiner's Office identified Uma Vishwabhan, 77, as the woman fatally struck by a car. Her residence is unknown.

SAN JOSE, CA -- A woman who was killed in a hit-and-run in San Jose on Thursday has been identified as 77-year-old Uma Vishwabhan, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

The crash happened at 7:33 p.m. in the area of Vistapark and Copperfield drives in South San Jose, according to police. Vishwabhan was walking across Vistapark Drive when a dark blue minivan or SUV hit her, police said. The vehicle then fled the scene. Vishwabhan was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead a short
while later, police said.

Officers have not yet identified or arrested the suspect.

The crash is the city's 33rd fatal collision and the 14th pedestrian fatality of 2018, according to police. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to contact Detective Brian McMahon at (408) 277-4654.
