Santa Clara County Hosting Cooperative Gun Buyback Program

The cooperative program with Santa Clara County and its cities is set in Sunnyvale on Sept. 29 and is designed to make communities safer.

LOS ALTOS, CA -- The Los Altos Police Department is taking part in a cooperative guy buyback program with its adjoining cities in Santa Clara County. The event set for 8 a.m.-noon on Sept. 29 at the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church at 728 W. Fremont Ave. includes the cities of Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto and Santa Clara -- along with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

The overall goal of the program is to reduce the availability of unwanted, unsafe and illegal guns on the streets of communities.

Each participant will receive $100 per handgun, rifle or shotgun and $200 per assault weapon to a maximum amount of $400 handed out. There is no limit as to how many guns are turned in.

All guns must be in working order, unloaded and transported in the trunk of the vehicle or truck bed.
