UPDATED: SUV Overturns on I-280 Near Magdalena Avenue in Los Altos

Major injuries were reported and all northbound lanes were briefly closed about noon after the Tuesday single-vehicle accident.

Five people were hospitalized after an SUV lost control and overturned on northbound Interstate Highway 280 in Los Altos Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The solo-vehicle accident, which resulted in major injuries, was reported at 11:52 a.m. near Magdalena Avenue, according to the CHP.

Initial reports indicated that the red Ford Expedition flipped several times. CHP Officer Arturo Montiel said that one party was ejected and sustained major injuries injuries. 

Two people were taken to Valley Medical Center in San Jose with major injuries, two people were taken to Stanford Medical Center with minor injuries, and one person was taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The crash prompted the CHP to issue a Sig-alert at 12:08 p.m., and the accident briefly blocked northbound lanes altogether.

Two lanes remained closed until the alert was canceled at 1:24.
