Vehicle, Home Thievery Running Amok In Los Altos

On Nov. 30 alone, the Los Altos Police Department counted 16 reports of thefts of items in vehicles and residential garages.

LOS ALTOS, CA -- Call it an epidemic on wheels for one who steals. But Los Altos police are warning residents and motorists who park in the town that thieves are targeting their quiet, quaint city with a vengeance.

"In all cases, the suspects targeted unlocked vehicles to steal items from within," the police department reported Monday. In some cases, the suspects were brazen enough to find the garage door opener, access the house and locate more unlocked vehicles with valuables inside.

The following streets have encountered this crime: Christina Drive, Tiptoe Lane, Truman Avenue, Elmhurst Drive, Oakhurst Drive, Heritage Court, Awalt Court, Fallen Leaf Lane, Payne Drive and Loma Prieta Court.

Officers are asking that vehicle- and homeowners lock up their belongings or remove them completely, consider an alarm system and park in well-lit areas.
