1980 Malibuites Lose Power
An unexplained outage shut off power in the areas north of Point Dume Saturday night.
MALIBU, CA — Malibu was hit with an unexplained blackout Saturday night, causing 1,980 people to lose power.
The outage was reported at 9:19 p.m. Saturday, and affected the area between Pacific Coast Highway to Horizon Drive, and Serrano Road and Busch Drive, according to Southern California Edison.
Power was first restored to residents on Bonsall Drive at 9:34, and fully restored by 1:47 a.m. Sunday.

Taelor Bakewell of SCE was not able to give a reason for the outage, citing only "equipment failure."
Public safety power shutoffs were planned throughout western Malibu in early September to avoid sparking fires during a Red Flag warning, but no outages were reported. Further outages were planned from Sept. 14-20 so that crews could upgrade infrastructure.
