CA Lawmakers Are The Highest Paid In U.S., They Just Got A Raise

A state commission approved a 3 percent raise for California's lawmakers.

CALIFORNIA -- A state commission this week approved a 3 percent raise for California lawmakers, making the Golden State's governor the highest paid in the country. Under the plan approved by California Citizens Compensation Commission, California's governor will earn $201,680 per year, up by nearly $6,000, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"The governor’s salary was increased from $195,806 to $201,680 — the highest salary of any governor in the country," the Times reported. "Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf earns the second highest pay in the U.S. for a governor at $194,850, although he donates his entire salary to charity."

The attorney general's salary will increase by $5,000 to $175,000, while state senators and assembly members will see a $3,200 bump, bringing their annual salaries to $110,000, according to the Times article.

Thomas Dalzell, chair of the California Citizens Compensation Commission, said the 3 percent raises are "incremental, modest, symbolic increases,” according to the Times.

"California legislators are by far the highest paid lawmakers in the country, even before the raise," the Times article said. "The pay increase bumped their base salary from $107,242 to $110,459 annually. Pennsylvania has the second highest legislative salaries, at $87,200 annually."
