Closing Statements: Missy Zeitsoff

What City Council Candidate Missy Zeitsoff wants residents to know before April 10.

From April 3-6, Malibu Patch will share a running series called 'Closing Statements.' It will give the seven City Council candidates an opportunity to share with readers their final thoughts regarding the upcoming election. Election day is April 10. The statement below is written by Missy Zeitsoff.

The following are my priorities and platform goals:

  • Stop the bulldozers from destroying the lovely lagoon on June 1st! Work with Save Our Lagoon and State agencies and representatives in productive negotiation and mediation
  • Work with A Safer PCH, Caltrans, CHP and LASD to save lives and increase capacity on PCH
  • Consult with the Malibu Coalition for Slow Growth in crafting a City Slow Growth Ordinance, including infrastructure constraint analysis like PCH and water supply
  • Enforce environmental protections, such as dark skies, ridgelines, view corridors, wildlife protection, conservative grading, and clean water for marine creatures and humans
  • Reduce the scope of the demanded Civic Center Sewer System; eliminate the residential subsidy, and devise a solution which is non-growth inducing and not a potential discharge or spill health hazard
  • Review So. California Edison's endangerment of Malibu, LACO Waterworks 29's expensive and inadequate water supply, and Charter Cable's lack of public service channels
  • Scrutinize staff numbers, the rapid decrease of the emergency / reserve fund, the unexplainable LACO Zuma LASD Beach Patrol for half a million City dollars per summer, and other budget problems such as in-house tasks versus "out-house " consulting and legal contracts
  • Work with Preserve Malibu group and Chamber of Commerce for a balance between small business and chain stores so we can keep Malibu's special character and favorite places
  • Enact the 2008 vote for View Restoration and Protection ASAP
  • Enhance the education and activities of our Juniors, by working with AMPS and SMMUSD, and by providing more wholesome activities like a world-class skate park in a non-controversial place; enliven the futures of our Seniors with helping our Malibu Urgent Care, creating low-cost options for senior housing and by exploring an assisted living policy in Malibu
