Construction Begins On Civic Center Way
A project to renovate Civic Center Way between Malibu Canyon Road and Webb Way kicked off Friday.

MALIBU, CA —Civic Center Way is about to get a makeover. On Friday, a project to make the .7 mile stretch prettier and safer kicked off.
“At a time when it seems like everything is on hold because of the pandemic, it feels especially good right now to break ground on a project that will make our Civic Center safer and more beautiful for generations to come,” said Mayor Mikke Pierson. “It is a symbol of the City’s resilience and our commitment to keep working to serve the community in the face of adversity.”
The project, funded by the Measure R Highway Operational improvement funds, will create additional space for pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists to travel along the road between Malibu Canyon Road and Webb Way. The project, which runs along Civic Center Way between Malibu Canyon Road and Webb Way, and along Webb Way between Civic Center Way and Pacific Coast Highway, consists of pavement reconstruction, removal and installation of sidewalks, gutters, curbs, curb ramps, and utilities, as well as installation of walls, striping, signing, and new landscapes.
A portion of Civic Center Way will be closed from late September to December. Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with some work scheduled on weekends. Emergency vehicles will be granted temporary access, and work will be suspended during Red Flag Warnings.
