MALIBU, CA — Do you ever find yourself in the mood for a marble sculpture from 1920? How about a four-night stay in Greece? Or even some good, old-fashioned bagels with lox and schmear?

57 enticing, eclectic items are on offer as part of a silent, online auction until Friday at 11:59 p.m. to benefit the Emily Shane Foundation, the Malibu-based organization honoring its namesake, a 13-year-old girl who was fatally struck while crossing Pacific Coast Highway in 2010.

The proceeds from the “Active in April” fundraiser will go towards the foundation’s Successful Education Achievement (SEA) program, which partners struggling, low-income middle students who need extra motivation with university-level mentors who meet with them one-on-one a few times a week to coach them back to success.

Malibu resident Ellen Shane formed the organization shortly after her daughter Emily’s death because she remembered how much similar interventions had helped her.

"I tried very experienced teachers, I tried different routes, and interestingly, she did the best with university students, and I realized why: there was an immediate relatability, they were young, she could talk about music and fashion and stuff she was interested in, plus they were perfect role models," Shane said.

In addition to bidding in the auction, participants can pledge to “get active,” by setting a goal to complete any kind of a physical activity that friends and family will sponsor. The first prize winner will receive an at-home wine tasting, second prize winners will receive a dinner certificate to Simms Restaurants, and third prize winners will receive five In-N-Out Burger gift cards.

Other items on auction include Ann Krasner paintings, high-end cosmetic packages, and trips to numerous hotels, spas, museums, and restaurants. Direct financial contributions are also accepted.
